About us
EnergyPro Light Up Foundation Nigeria

Is a Non- profit organisation dedicated to the improvement of the welfare of Nigerians through the adoption and provision of renewable energy to Hospitals, schools, SMEs and under-privileged members of the community. Shortage of power is evident in the country, within the space of a month, the Nigerian power grid collapsed twice in March 2022, leaving a lot of businesses and households vulnerable due to lack of electricity. The urban areas of the country could still afford to run on diesel or petrol powered generators, but those in the rural areas with no access to these for various reasons, were kept in the dark for the period it was down. The gap in supply and demand of electricity in a country with over 190 million citizens is way too great, leaving a great number of citizens without access to electricity, especially in the rural areas. Based on the wide range of natural resources at the disposal of the country, the best course of action would be to fill the gap through alternative renewable energy.

Challenges of the Power Sector

For a country like Nigeria with over 170 million citizens and an installed power grid of over 12,000MW, on a good day, daily output of power is only about 4,000MW. This is greatly insufficient and according to the World Bank, it leaves over 43% of the country without access to electricity, let alone a reliable one. This statistics greatly stunts the growth of the economy and setback businesses.

Of the 4,000MW only 36% is accessible by the rural area, while the rest of it goes to the urban area. Although the country is greatly blessed in resources to enable it to generate enough electricity, a lot of factors come into play which greatly hinders the production, distribution and accessibility of electricity by the masses.

Nigerian power sectors, the Nigeria energy sector, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission all face three major challenges:

  • the security of supply to keep up with ever-mounting demand ( the human demand for energy is more than what is generated)
  • The fight against climate change( Burning of coal, oil and gas produces carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide which is harmful to the planet)
  • The global trend toward massive urbanization.( mass movement of population from rural to urban setting ,thereby creating more need for energy)

The lack of electricity in turn leads to decline in economic activities, leaving the economy in a state of;

  • poverty,
  • poor health services,
  • decline in economic growth,
  • poor research development and socio-economic imbalance
  •

Solution of the Power Sector

Diversification into alternative renewable energy.

Nigeria is abundant in natural resources which can be used as a source of electricity. These resources are never depleted and can easily be replenished, they include resources such as the sun, wind, wind, geothermal, biomass.

These energy sources, once utilized efficiently, can serve the country endlessly without having interruption in power.

This is the mission of ELUF. To provide uninterrupted electricity supply to Hospitals,School,SMEs and underprivileged members of the community, who in turn are the key actors that will improve the well being of the Nigerian  society.
